Ahead of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections in the month of March 2027, the poll-fight is all set to reach at the helm of the political tussle. The political understanding of the Yogi government seems to have a strong grasp of which narrative needs the right push, which automatically urges the Samajwadi Party to pull up its socks for a long battle. The U.P. government has already begun laying the groundwork to make the air flow their way, a top source said.

The Yogi government had proposed to rename eight districts of U.P. However, the proposal to the Centre could not gather a unanimous green signal and was said to be disapproved due to contention between U.P government and bureaucrats, sources say On one hand, the Yogi government wanted to follow RSS footsteps by carrying forward their ideation of ideological symbolism through names of the districts, just like how Mayawati glorified Dalit icons such as Savitribai Phule Nagar, Gautam Buddh Nagar, top source said.

U.P government had put forward to rename Balrampur after Atal Bihar Vajpayee, Basti after RSS ideologue Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar and Bulandshahr after former BJP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, top source said.

On the other hand, the bureaucratic wing in Delhi came up with a rebuttal by saying that the renaming exercise should not be limited to an ideology, but rather carry a broader meaning which is historically rooted and came up with alternatives like Kanpur as Kranti Nagar in memory of the 1857 revolt and Jhansi as Lakshmibai Nagar, top sources said.
