Reshuffle In Modi Cabinet On Cards?

Political observers eagerly await the cabinet reshuffle to see new faces and reforms. According to a trusted source, the wait may be longer as the Malmas period, an inauspicious time under Vedic astrology, is ongoing, with no auspicious ceremonies performed until June 15. Following this, on June 18, the Rajya Sabha is scheduled to elect 24 new members, a process expected to influence future cabinet decisions, according to a source. Analysts predict that just after this, preparations for the monsoon session will begin, and the reshuffle will more likely occur in July or August. 

With next year's assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and five other states approaching, Prime Minister Modi might consider reshuffling or inducting new faces based on political calculations and the leadership's weightage. Opposition parties are increasingly demanding the resignation of some ministers; according to sources, the PM may remove figures deemed controversial or ineffective.

Many senior ministers who have been in the cabinet since 2014, some over 70, are likely to transition to organisational roles, creating space for fresh leadership. The NDA coalition aims to expand its influence, particularly in Punjab and Jharkhand, by welcoming leaders from parties like AAP, TMC, and JMM, with plans to drop some existing faces to accommodate new members. Furthermore, senior BJP leaders are holding ongoing discussions with DMK leaders amid signs of possible internal divisions within the DMK. Senior functionaries believe that veteran leaders who have benefited from power should now step aside, allowing newer members to contribute their expertise and bolster the party’s organisational strength source says.
