In what is shaping up to be one of the most significant internal reckonings within Delhi Police's top echelons, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is actively considering departmental action and a formal inquiry against the recently shunted Special Commissioners of Police (Special CPs). Top Sources said that the Ministry has gathered some "reasonable material" pointing to serious misconduct by these senior IPS officers — enough to set the wheels of accountability firmly in motion.

    Soft Landing Backfired

According to top sources, at least one of the recently transferred Special CPs launched an aggressive behind-the-scenes campaign to secure a posting as Resident Commissioner — widely seen as a soft landing. However, top sources said that the Home Ministry not merely declined — it held its ground with a firmness that left little room for negotiation, and for the concerned Special CP, all options were exhausted without result.

    The Warning Shot Across

A top source said, "This is a warning shot," and added pointedly, "and it is meant to be read as exactly that." The calculus is simple, and it is being articulated with unusual directness at the highest level, "perform or perish". More critically, misjudge the power structure or attempt to outsmart it, and the consequences will be swift and career-defining.

The sharpest part of this message is directed not just at the officers already shunted, but at the entire senior brass currently operating at PHQ. Sources within the Ministry have been candid: "the current power structure at Police Headquarters has, in their assessment, been 'acting too smart for its own good' — a phrase that carries far more weight than its casual delivery might suggest.

In other words, the era of impunity is being tested. Those who read the room correctly will adapt. Those who continue to play power games may find themselves not just transferred, but facing the full weight of power going against them.
